So what is bulk email software?
When you need to send the same message to hundreds or thousands of people, you need to use bulk email software. Different email software can be used for sending bulk email messages, including regular email clients such as Mac Mail, however specialized bulk email software for Mac performs this particular task much better.
Unlike the regular email communication, in bulk emailing people come to your email list by means of a subscription process, and leave the list through unsubscription. On a large scale there can be literally thousands of new people subscribing and unsubscribing every single day, and millions of email messages can be sent every week.
A good specialized bulk email software usually handles all this efficiently, and in a fully automatic way, saving time and money.
Why can’t I just use Mac Mail for sending bulk email?
Sending bulk email messages using Mac Mail is usually done by putting a bunch of people in the “To” or “BCC” field of a new regular message; and the lists of subscribers are usually stored in Apple Address Book. There are some advantages and a whole lot of disadvantages of using Mac Mail for that, and we’ll not be discussing them here. To save time, I’ll say it doesn’t work.
10 years ago people used this method because back then there wasn’t any specialized software for that, and it worked well, until due to spam abuse Internet providers started to impose limits on the number of addresses used in “To” and “BCC”. Now, they either cut your recipient lists to make them not more than 100 recipients, or reject any messages that have more than 100 recipients.
Sending bulk email messages using Mac Mail also created privacy issues; such messages were exposing other list members. The situation was so bad, spammers were stealing email lists left and right, and people started to think twice before subscribing to any email newsletters.
Why specialized bulk email software is the way to go
When bulk email software was introduced to the market for the first time, it really changed the things. When sending mass messages, bulk email software for Mac does not use any “To” or “BCC” lists. Before sending, it generates separate personalized email messages, and then sends them out to recipients. And it does it in such a way that the one who receives the message, can’t even tell the difference (if this message was sent personally using Mac Mail or it was sent in bulk). And it’s great!
A good database system is usually used in bulk email software for Mac to store and maintain list subscribers. This database is fully automated while Apple Address Book is not. If you use bulk email software for Mac, you usually update your recipient database with only one click of your mouse, however if you use Apple Address Book, you have to add new people and remove existing people manually, which is very inconvenient and time-consuming.
Another thing I really like about bulk email software, which Mac Mail misses is email message personalization. It’s impossible to personally greet people using their names as well as reference other personal data provided on the subscription web form in the mass messages you send with Mac Mail. As opposed to Mac Mail, bulk email software for Mac can use generic message templates with place holders for names, birthdays, order numbers, and so on to create 100% personalized individual messages while sending.
I find all this so versatile, that I even use bulk email software for sending invoices to my customers, which I couldn’t do at the times I was using Mac Mail.
I’ve tried many different software products for sending bulk emails, such as MacMassMailer, BulkMax Mailer and BULKmailer, and found out MacMassMailer does this job perfectly.
